We had no stops slated for today, however, we spotted a Route 66 museum and as Bill had traveled Route 66 many times in the past he had a desire to stop. It was a very interesting museum and he bought several Route 66 souvenirs for his garage.
Farther down the road in Groom, Texas there is a leaning water tower which currently serves as a decorative item. It originally was a functioning water tower which served as a sign for his truck stop and tourist information center. The truck stop can still be seen, set back off the road behind the tower, now boarded up and in disrepair following a devastating fire decades ago.
We are now staying at Oasis RV Resort in Amarillo, Texas. Our Verizon cell phone flashed a weather alert with a very loud alarm warning us of an impending storm. How right that was! The storm was so severe the coach was rocking from side to side. Bill had to let the air out of the suspension system and deploy the jacks in order to stabilize the motor home. Of course, we were barbecuing at the time.
