Pigon Forge, Tennessee

Friday, September 13th, 2013

We arrived in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee late Thursday afternoon.  We noticed a significant amount of traffic and soon discovered that it was Pigeon Forge’s equivalent of our Hot August Nights.  There were 50’s cars everywhere.  The main street was packed.

Friday we had lunch at Chick Filet and purchased tickets for the Smith Family Theatre and Dolly Parton’s Dixieland Stampede.  They are both dinner shows.  We went to Dolly Parton’s show Friday evening.  The show was spectacular and the pre show was fun.  The food serving was crazy.  Everything was to be eaten with your fingers.  The main item on the menu was a whole chicken if you can imagine.  The show included Ostriches racing with riders, a pig race, a chicken race, a horse race among many other events, the most spectacular being a female rider straddling two horses, one foot on each horse racing around the arena and jumping through a hoop of fire.  The evening was a lot of fun and ended on a very patriotic note.  The main theme of the show was competition between the North and the South.

There are so many things to do here but we are limiting our time to two days and three nights so we’ve just chosen these two.  We are anxious to be on our way home.
